Meet Shanna

I’m not running for state senate to boost my resume.

As a teacher, I think about the students I can impact in my classroom. And then I think about how many kids I can impact by passing legislation to fully fund our schools, make sure everyone has the health care they need and clean air to breathe.

Learn more about why I’m running below.

Dear Friend,

My name is Shanna Danielson. I'm an educator, a mother, and an advocate. I've been teaching music in Pennsylvania’s public schools for ten years...and now my husband, Eric, and I are raising our son Elliott in northern York County.

I grew up in small towns like the ones in our district and I know what it is like to experience the cruelty of a system where you can play by the rules, do everything right, and still lose it all in the blink of an eye.

When I was was a child, my dad lost his job overnight when the company he worked for declared bankruptcy, stranding its employees and leaving our family without a steady income or health insurance.

Now, as a public school music teacher, each day I see students and their families facing similar struggles.

My students are frustrated that the adults in power are not addressing the needs of their generation - gun violence, crushing debt due to education and healthcare costs, and the future of the planet.

I've dedicated my life to fight for what is right. As a mom and a teacher, the classroom is my home. But after the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary, I never walked into the classroom and felt the same way again.

Everyday I wonder, “How am I going to protect my kids?”

Not only from school shootings and the climate crisis, but from a pandemic that has killed thousands, destroyed our economy, and upended our daily lives.

This cannot be our new normal. Not for my son, not for any of our kids, not for any of us.

I’m not running for state senate to boost my resume. Everything about my background says stay in your classroom and stick to your grind. This isn’t a career choice. It’s about doing what’s right.

As a teacher, I think about the students I can impact in my classroom. And then I think about how many kids I can impact by passing legislation to fully fund our schools, make sure everyone has the health care they need and clean air to breathe.

I make decisions based on my son and the kids that I teach. I’ll never make decisions based on what is politically convenient.

We can make life better for working families, but it starts in small towns like ours, with people like you and me. It starts with electing leaders who know what it’s like to live paycheck to paycheck, who will fight to make sure everyone makes a living wage and all of our kids get a high-quality education.
